Jet-Setting with Mounjaro: Your Guide to Travelling with Your Medication

Updated: 3 hours ago

Planning a holiday while on your Mounjaro journey? Whether you’re jetting off for a much-needed beach break or heading out on a work trip, it’s perfectly normal to wonder how best to travel with your medication—or whether you should take it with you at all.

Here at MSH Weight Loss, we’re here to help you feel confident and prepared, wherever your travels may take you.

Can You Travel with Mounjaro?

Yes, you absolutely can travel with Mounjaro. Many of our clients do so regularly. However, there are a few things to keep in mind to ensure everything goes smoothly—especially when flying.

Top Tips for Travelling with Mounjaro

  1. Keep it Cool: Mounjaro should be stored in the fridge (between 2°C and 8°C) and mustn’t be frozen. However, it can last unrefrigerated for up to 21 days if needed, providing the temperature doesn't get any higher than 30°C. When you're on the move, especially through airports, the best way to maintain the correct temperature is to use a medical-grade cool bag or insulated pouch with a cold pack. You can buy travel-friendly options online or at your local pharmacy.

  2. Carry it in Your Hand Luggage: Always keep your Mounjaro in your carry-on luggage—not your checked bag. This helps you control the temperature and ensures it doesn’t get lost in transit. Also, should your checked luggage go missing (we’ve all been there), your medication won’t be affected.

  3. Take Documentation Just in Case: While many airports won’t ask to see a letter for injectable medication, some may—especially if you’re carrying syringes or pens with needles. If you’d like peace of mind, MSH Weight Loss can provide a nurse-written travel letter for you. Just get in touch with us ahead of your trip, and we’ll sort it for you.

  4. Plan Your Dosing Schedule: If you're crossing time zones, try to stick as close as possible to your usual dosing schedule. A small shift of a few hours is usually fine, but if you're unsure, drop us a message—we're happy to guide you.

Choosing Not to Travel with Mounjaro

Not everyone feels comfortable travelling with medication—and that’s completely okay. If you'd rather not take Mounjaro with you on holiday, here’s what you need to know:

  • Missing One Dose: If you're on a weekly dose and you miss one while you're away, it's usually not a problem. Many people take a short break and simply pick up where they left off. You may notice a small change in appetite or weight, but it’s unlikely to affect your long-term progress.

  • Taking a Break from Treatment: Some people prefer to pause treatment intentionally during holidays—especially if they expect to be indulging more than usual. If you do take a break, be kind to yourself. This journey is about long-term results, not perfection.

  • Restarting When You’re Home: When you return, just continue your Mounjaro as normal. If it's been more than a few weeks, it’s best to check in with us to confirm your restart dose—especially if you were mid-titration.

Travelling with Mounjaro is completely doable with a little planning. Keep it cool, carry it with you, and don’t forget that MSH Weight Loss is here to support you—whether you need a travel letter or a bit of advice before take-off.

Wherever you're headed, we hope your trip is relaxing, enjoyable, and filled with confidence. 🌍✈️
