If you're looking into oral weight loss medication, you've probably come across two names: Wegovy Tablets and Foundayo. Both are once-daily tablets working on the same appetite-regulating hormone system, but they're built differently, taken differently, and backed by separate clinical trials.
Here's how they actually compare.
How Each Tablet Works
Wegovy Tablets contain semaglutide, the same active ingredient as Wegovy injections, in tablet form. Semaglutide is a peptide, a type of molecule that needs careful handling to survive the digestive system intact, which is part of why the tablet requires a specific dosing routine.
Foundayo contains orforglipron, Eli Lilly's oral GLP-1 medicine. Orforglipron is a small molecule rather than a peptide, chemically simpler, and designed from the outset to work as a standard tablet without those extra precautions.
Both work on the same GLP-1 receptor system: slowing gastric emptying, reducing appetite, and increasing the feeling of fullness after eating.
Taking Each Tablet Correctly Matters
Wegovy Tablets
Take on an empty stomach, with no more than half a glass of water
Take first thing in the morning
Wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking anything else, or taking other oral medicines

What the Trial Evidence Shows
Both medicines have solid trial data behind them, though it's worth being upfront that the figures below come from separate trials in separate patient groups, not a head-to-head study, so they shouldn't be read as one medicine directly beating the other by that exact margin.
Wegovy Tablets: 13.6% average weight loss over 64 weeks (OASIS 4 trial)
Foundayo: up to 12.4% average weight loss over 72 weeks at the highest dose (ATTAIN-1 trial)

Dose Titration: What to Expect
Both medicines start at a low dose and increase gradually, roughly every 30 days, to reduce the risk of side effects while your body adjusts.

Common Side Effects During Escalation
Because both medicines work on the same GLP-1 system, their side effect profiles overlap heavily: nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, indigestion and stomach discomfort are common with both, particularly in the first few weeks or after a dose increase, and usually settle down over time.
One difference worth knowing: Foundayo has a somewhat higher reported rate of hair loss in clinical trials 3% vs 7%, particularly in women, compared with placebo. It's not common, but it's reported more frequently with Foundayo than with Wegovy Tablets.
